Homemade Battering Ram - WIP was created by ChicagoWiz
While I'm knocking out goblin units left and right, I've been slowly assembling this little guy.

Since Ral Partha doesn't sell a battering ram, I decided to build my own! This is the completed A Frame, adding the wheels and canopy supports next. The timbers are shaped to look rough.

Following this plan here: battlegroundhobbies.blogspot.com/2013/03...tering-ram-with.html

I'm going to make two of these. I've scaled the plans down by about half, based on my measurements of my 25mm catapult. Can't wait to see how it turns out!

Wheels attached! Next come the canopy supports, attach the ram, then the canopy itself.

Tonight's progress - Canopy supports and starting on the ram, attaching the thread to it (a couple of drops of superglue) in preparation for hanging it off the A-frame.

Thanks! Although it's not a Ral Partha model, it's going to look great next to the RP catapult or being pushed by the Orcs and Goblins. I keep matching their figures next to it. And the RP catapult gave me the approximate dimensions.

Did a bit of work this morning. Attached the ram to the A-frame. Some drops of superglue to hold the thread in place. Now to paint the frame/carriage and ram - then on to the canopy!

Progress on the homebrew battering ram.

I painted the carriage, wheels, A-frame and ram. Used mainly washes. I used a thin Sharpie on the wheels to emphasize the wheel slats, but I'm not happy with it. Ah well. The brother ram will benefit from learning.

I started on the canopy - cut some thin craft sticks, used the scraps as support backers and the glue is now drying. Tonight, I attach them to the supports and start putting on the "leather" covers. Getting close to the finish, I'm already measuring out the base needed.

This would be an insane amount of metal, even more so than the catapult. Although their wheels are probably better than mine...

Ram No. 2 is coming along a lot faster! Already finished with the carriage and about to start on the A-frame

Ram No. 2 is coming along nicely and much more quickly than the first one. Wait for the glue to dry for now and then do the "leather" canopy and base tonight/tomorrow.

Very cool idea! Only thing that would have made it better would have been an iron head of some kind on the ram. Love seeing people do things like this though, keep it up!

Thanks!

I just didn't have any bits to put an iron head on it. We'll see, maybe I'll get ambitious after I get done with all these other figures in the queue... ;)
