Rather than keep on posting new threads, thought I would just put my Work In Progress pictures in one place. I haven't slowed down enough to have a "photo day" to take the finished/based/unit shots.

Here's the current WIP, needing to be based:
Goblin Wolf Cavalry - 98-276

Busy weekend at the paint workbench. Between repairing and rebasing cavalry[1], I finished up 4 of the Goblin Shock Troopers and started priming these guys. Air Elementals and a Fire Elemental. Both are going to be difficult.

How do you paint air? I'm looking at Bob Ross, of all places, for inspiration on how to paint clouds. So the one primed in blue-gray is going to be my experiment. We'll see how it goes...

[1] I *hate* rebasing. It usually means repairs to the legs of horses, or struggling to understand why I used superglue for basing instead of PVA. At least replacing spears is easy with styrene rods.

Absolutely with you on the strong distaste for rebasing models... there is ALWAYS something to touch up or repair afterwards

I never thought about cavalry style bases for elementals... very interesting! I really need to get around to painting all of mine eventually, but there are so many other projects in front of them it will likely not be anytime soon. Keep it up! I hope to be working on some new terrain in my spare time soon too.

They fit on the 1x2 bases and gave me room to do some fun things. I spackled both to hide the cast base.

On the Air Elemental, I dry brushed air effects.

On the Fire Elemental, I used some light modeling paste to make licks of flame across the base. They look better in person, than the picture, but when I get it painted more, you'll see.

I have a goal of preparing units and terrain for Gary Con in March, then Little Wars in April, so I'm motivated! Once those are done, I'll go back to a slower pace.

Finally finished with the Fire Elemental!

File Attachment:

I'm really pleased how he turned out. I followed the approach from this page to a certain extent, except I used my el-cheapo DecoArt Americana or Delta Ceramcoat paints. Once I got to where I felt like it was done, I stopped.

I'm thrilled that I finally figured out blending. I've read the old Citadel "How to Paint Miniatures" many times, but for some reason, re-reading the blending portion "clicked" in my head and viola!

Great job on all the figs, but the Fire Elemental is truly impressive!

I like the fire elemental a lot! My only suggestion is that I would like to see some of the oranges and maybe even a hint of red farther down, possibly even in the base. Maybe an orange wash of sorts in the negative spaces? I think it would give it more depth and help all of that sculpting you did on the base really pop! Just a suggestion.

Thanks again for the advice, Moonglum. After doing nearly 50 goblins eyes, I didn't even think twice about doing the General's eyes and teeth, and they turned out great!

Next in the paint queue - two Earth Elementals!

I thought this was going to be an easy figure - quick stone/gray dry-brush, but... "look harder...." and this guy is a combo of wood and stone! I love it! Once I'm finished, will put flock where the vines are, to add a bit more detail.

I thought the exact same thing the first time I saw that piece. Came to the same eye opening conclusion too!

After 2 months and a few days, I've finally finished my initial Bestial Chaos Wars army of Orcs and Goblins. These guys, the Orc Archers from the recent Kickstarter, completed the set. Now off to base these orcs and get on with the humans!

File Attachment:

I did finish those wonderful Earth Elementals. As a special twist, where there were thinner vines that looked like they had leaves, I carefully put some flock. I like the look!

Next up on the paint bench - finish my Hirst Arts ruined building terrain piece and start on the human army! Archers are first up.

Finishing up the human archer unit. These are Longbowman (DF-056) and English Archer with longbow (DH-249)

Only 36 more human type figures to go before the convention games in March! And another 43 elves and monsters to paint before April!

I'm also making headway on terrain - here's the ruined building piece with flock and sand paths, and the start of the Two Towers/Gate piece. Plus some scatter ruins pieces. (Because obviously I don't have enough to do or get ready for in March...)
